Dentures

Dentures

A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissues. They can be made to resemble your natural teeth and may even enhance your smile. Dentures are made in a dental lab from an impression of your teeth and gums. Your dentist will help you decide which type of denture is right for you based on whether some or all of your teeth will be replaced and the cost involved.

There are two main types of dentures:

  • Complete dentures are used when all teeth in an arch are being replaced.
  • Partial dentures replace certain permanent teeth that have been lost or removed.

How Are They Made?

For both partial and complete dentures, impressions are taken of your jaw. These molds help our dentist create the perfect fit for your denture. After your gums have had some time to heal, your denture will be ready for placement. If your denture is still being crafted and thus unavailable, we will get you fitted with a temporary denture to wear in the meantime.

Once your permanent denture is ready, we’ll either have you return to the office or send your denture directly to you. You can come back in so that we can check the fit and make adjustments if necessary. Your teeth will look natural and feel much more comfortable than any of the temporary solutions you might have tried in the past.

Who Would Need Dentures?

If you’re considering getting dentures, you should talk to your dentist about your options and how dentures can improve your quality of life. Not every type of denture is suitable for every patient, and treatment will take multiple appointments. Your dentist will also talk to you about how to care for your dentures once you get them, including cleaning and storing them properly when not in use.

Some affordable denture options include:

  • Immediate dentures: They are placed immediately after the removal of your remaining teeth. Since these dentures are not custom-made to fit your mouth, they are generally the most affordable option.
  • Partial dentures: They are a removable alternative to fixed bridges and implants. They are often the most affordable option for replacing multiple missing teeth in a row.
  • Implant-supported dentures: They are the most expensive denture option available. However, they also provide the most comfort and stability. These dentures are also permanent and will not require messy adhesive creams or powders. They also help prevent other oral health problems, such as bone atrophy and permanent tooth misalignment.
  • Overdentures are placed over dental implants instead of directly attached to your gums. This provides a great deal of stability and comfort.
